OXFORD, PA — A man involved in an online banking scheme entered a guilty plea at a preliminary hearing.
Alexis Martinez-Morales, 31, of Oxford, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct on Dec. 16 at Oxford District Court.
The case originated on July 28 when Martinez-Morales reported to Oxford Police that he had been scammed online by an unknown suspect.
Martinez-Morales filed the report after his bank advised him of unusual activity in his account.
Police investigation revealed that Martinez-Morales knew the person who had deposited sums of money into his account and had an online relationship with them.
Martinez-Morales was instructed to send the deposited money back to the person and others via cashier’s checks once the deposits cleared.
The bank detected the fraudulent activity and deactivated the account.
Criminal charges were filed against Martinez-Morales via summons.
