MARCY, NY — A Rome man was arrested for felony DWI with three children in his vehicle following a be-on-the-lookout alert on January 20, 2026.

Evans Oduro-Firikyi, 40, of Rome, was taken into custody at approximately 8:23 p.m. on State Route 49 in the Town of Marcy, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.

A member of the public contacted police regarding a vehicle driving erratically on State Route 49.

The Oneida County 911 Center issued a BOLO for the vehicle.

Road patrol deputies were on scene of a disabled vehicle on State Route 49 when they observed the BOLO vehicle pass them.

The vehicle failed to move over for two marked sheriff’s office patrol vehicles that had their emergency lights activated.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and detected indicators of impairment from the driver.

A deputy assigned to the STOP DWI Unit responded and determined the driver was intoxicated.

Three children were passengers in the vehicle, with ages ranging from less than one year old to nine years old.

Oduro-Firikyi attempted to pull away from deputies and prevent them from making the arrest.

He was found to have a blood alcohol content of .22, more than double the legal limit in New York.

Oduro-Firikyi was charged with three counts of felony aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of aggravated DWI, one count of DWI, one count of common law DWI, one count of resisting arrest and various traffic violations.

He was transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building for processing and held at the Oneida County Jail pending arraignment in CAP Court.

Child protective services were contacted and the children were turned over to a sober relative.
