Four men charged in connection with shooting in Haverhill

HAVERHILL, MA — Four men have been charged in connection with a shooting that occurred on Dec. 27.

Three of the individuals were taken into custody as part of a coordinated operation, while a fourth individual was already in custody on unrelated charges, according to Haverhill police.

The charges stem from an ongoing investigation into an incident in which gunfire struck a residence, causing property damage.

No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

Edward Alvarado, 34, of Haverhill, has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, intentional or reckless discharge of a firearm striking a dwelling, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm, unlicensed possession of ammunition, and two counts of malicious destruction of property under $1,200.

Luis Hernandez, 37, of Haverhill, has been charged with conspiracy and accessory after the fact.

Estuardo Pernilla, 29, of Methuen, has been charged with conspiracy in connection with the same incident.

Celestino Escalera, 31, of Peabody, who was already in custody, has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, intentional or reckless discharge of a firearm striking a dwelling, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm, unlicensed possession of ammunition, and two counts of malicious destruction of property over $1,200.

The Massachusetts State Police STOP Team and the VFAS Unit assisted in the investigation.
