BIG FLATS, NY — Four people were arrested following a burglary in progress on Jan. 18, 2026, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
Thiago M. Dornelio, 18, of Schoharie, and a 16-year-old juvenile from Elmira were charged with burglary in the third degree, a Class D felony, grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony, and criminal trespass in the third degree, a Class B misdemeanor.
Dayton T. Bashore, 18, of Elmira, was charged with burglary in the third degree, a Class D felony, and grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony.
Dustin T. Bashore, 22, of Elmira, was charged with burglary in the third degree, a Class D felony.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Brookline Avenue in the Town of Big Flats for a report of a burglary in progress.
Deputies located a vehicle with four occupants matching the description of the suspects and the vehicle description provided by a witness.
After taking the suspects into custody, the Criminal Investigation Division was contacted for further investigation.
Investigators determined that Dornelio and the juvenile had also been involved in a grand larceny from a residence on Hazelwood Avenue, near the location of the burglary.
All occupants of the vehicle were arrested for their involvement in the burglary.
Dornelio, Dayton Bashore and Dustin Bashore were arraigned in the Town of Big Flats Court and released on their own recognizance.
They are scheduled to appear back in the Town of Big Flats Court at a later date.
The 16-year-old juvenile will appear in Chemung County Court – Youth Part at a later date.
