Woman arrested on felony charge in Virgil

VIRGIL, NY — A 28-year-old woman was arrested on felony criminal mischief and other charges following a domestic disturbance on Jan. 14.

Rebecca S. Mathewson, of Virgil, was taken into custody at 3:06 p.m. after Cortland County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence in the town.

During the investigation, officers determined Mathewson had engaged in a physical altercation with another person at the residence, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

Mathewson was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation.

She was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Mathewson was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 p.m. and released on her own recognizance.

She is scheduled to appear in Virgil Town Court on Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
