DUNBARTON, NH — A Skowhegan man wanted in connection with a homicide was arrested Friday following a multi-state police pursuit that ended in a crash.

Dane Burke, 55, of Skowhegan, was taken into custody at approximately 10:30 a.m. after barricading himself inside a vehicle that crashed into a tree on Route 13, just north of Barnard Road.

The incident began at approximately 8 a.m. when local law enforcement in Lowell, Massachusetts, located Burke traveling in a 2018 silver Jeep Compass with Ohio license plates.

Burke failed to stop for police, leading to a pursuit that continued through Massachusetts and into New Hampshire with Massachusetts State Police joining the chase.

After the crash, the New Hampshire State Police SWAT Team responded and took Burke into custody.

Burke was transported to Concord Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

He was arrested on a Maine warrant charging him with murder in the death of Nichole Jackson, 46, of Skowhegan.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta ruled Jackson’s death a homicide following an autopsy conducted as part of a Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central investigation.

The autopsy determined the cause of death to be blunt force and sharp force trauma.

Maine State Police identified Burke, who was Jackson’s boyfriend, as a suspect in her death based on information developed during the investigation.

Burke will remain in New Hampshire custody pending his return to Maine and will be transported to a New Hampshire jail once released from the hospital.
