TOWN OF UNION, NY — A vehicle crashed into Nirchi’s Restaurant on Taft Avenue on Friday afternoon after the driver’s foot slipped off the brake pedal.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident at approximately 5:31 p.m. Jan. 16.
Deputies determined that the 87-year-old male driver’s foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to accelerate over the walkway and into the restaurant.
Several people inside the restaurant sustained minor injuries, but no patrons or staff were transported to the hospital.
The driver was not injured.
No charges were filed.
The Union Center Fire Department and Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, Inc. assisted at the scene.
