KEARNY, NJ — Police arrested two men and recovered a stolen handgun after locating a vehicle linked to a shooting in Irvington on January 14, 2026.
Kearny Police Department units were alerted that a BMW flagged as a felony vehicle in NCIC due to its involvement in an Irvington shooting had entered the town.
Lieutenant Ward, Detectives Nunez and Montes, and Officers Castillo and Fearon located the vehicle parked near Passaic Avenue and established surveillance.
Officers received digital photos of Travis W. Brown, who had an active Irvington arrest warrant in connection with the shooting.
Officers intercepted three people near the vehicle, including Brown.
Officer Fearon recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from Brown’s jacket pocket during the arrest.
The firearm had been reported stolen.
Detective Montes recovered a knife from a second individual, identified as Daijon L. Williams, who had an outstanding municipal warrant.
The third person was released from the scene without charges.
Brown, 33, of Irvington, was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, receiving stolen property and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
Williams, 26, of Newark, was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and processed for his outstanding warrant.
Both men were processed at Kearny Police Headquarters and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
