LAKEWOOD, NJ — Police arrested a man Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to sell stolen jewelry at a local business.
Melvin Torres, 33, of Lakewood, was taken into custody by detectives who were investigating a report of missing property.
Officers initially responded Monday to a report of a missing wallet containing valuable jewelry, according to the Lakewood Police Department.
Officer Amoroso documented the incident and initiated follow-up actions.
Detectives continued the investigation Tuesday and while canvassing the area, encountered a man attempting to sell the stolen jewelry at a local business.
Torres was identified as the suspect and taken into custody by Detectives Eric Stefanelli and Austin Letts.
All stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim.
Torres has been charged with theft and fencing.
Police also determined Torres had an active warrant for his arrest at the time he was taken into custody.
No fraudulent use of financial accounts was reported.
