CAPE MAY, NJ — Police have arrested a man in connection with a burglary that occurred on Washington Street Mall in December.
Walter E. Langston, 51, of Wildwood, was arrested following a joint investigation by detectives from the Cape May Police Department, Wildwood Police Department and Middle Township Police Department.
Cape May police officers responded to an alarm call at 518 Washington Street at approximately 3:50 a.m. on Dec. 4.
Detectives processed the scene and obtained surveillance footage from the surrounding area that led investigators to identify a suspect.
Through interviews, detectives determined the suspect was in possession of a vehicle observed in the area on the night of the incident and on several nights prior, with the same male subject present in the vicinity of the burglary.
Investigators learned that Middle Township and Wildwood police departments were investigating burglaries in their jurisdictions involving the same suspect identified through surveillance footage.
Cape May and Middle Township police detectives interviewed Langston at the Middle Township Police Department following his arrest by that agency on Jan. 13.
During the interview, Langston admitted to committing the burglaries investigated by the departments.
Langston was formally charged on Jan. 14 with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of burglar’s tools.
