NEW HARTFORD, NY — A Utica man has been arrested in connection with a burglary at a hotel that occurred last summer.
New Hartford Police Officers responded to a reported burglary at The Quality Inn & Suites on New Hartford Street on July 10 after hotel staff discovered that an unoccupied room had been unlawfully entered, extensively damaged, and hotel property stolen from within.
The room was last occupied on July 8 and was observed to be in proper condition with no signs of damage or theft.
When staff accessed the room two days later, it was in severe disarray, with damage to the interior and evidence of forced entry through an exterior window.
The case was turned over to the New Hartford Police Department Criminal Investigation Division.
Nearby surveillance footage showed an unauthorized male entering and exiting the room during overnight hours.
Investigators processed the scene, secured physical evidence, and conducted an extensive follow-up investigation with the assistance of the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center.
As a result of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Josue Suman, 43, of Utica.
On Jan. 14, Suman was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony; fourth-degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
Suman was processed at the New Hartford Police Department and transported to the Oneida County Jail to be held for Centralized Arraignment Part Court.
