CONWAY, NH — New Hampshire State Police are investigating a crash between a Conway Police Department cruiser and an SUV on Monday night.

The collision occurred at 7:14 p.m. on White Mountain Highway near Eastman Road.

Officer James Zimmer, 26, a member of the Conway Police Department, was driving his cruiser northbound on White Mountain Highway when he observed a violation by a southbound vehicle, according to police.

Zimmer attempted to make a U-turn to perform a traffic stop of the vehicle.

While making the U-turn, he failed to perceive and yield to an SUV that had been following him, resulting in the crash, police said.

The SUV, a 2020 Hyundai Kona, was driven by Jessica Szymanski, 49, of Conway.

Neither Szymanski nor Zimmer were injured.

Both vehicles sustained sufficient damage to require being towed from the scene.

The road was fully closed for approximately two hours, from the time of the collision until the vehicles were removed.

Troopers were assisted by members of the Conway fire and police departments.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Caleb Savard at [email protected].
