Woman arrested on theft, weapons charges in DeWitt

DEWITT, NY — A Syracuse woman faces multiple charges after police discovered stolen clothing, firearms and drugs following a retail theft investigation at a local hotel.

Keyonna Slater, 31, of Syracuse, was arrested Jan. 8 at the DoubleTree Hotel at 6301 Route 298 as she attempted to retrieve clothing items that hotel staff had reported as suspicious.

Hotel employees contacted the DeWitt Police Department on Jan. 6 after finding a large quantity of name-brand clothes with tags still attached in a vacated guest room.

The clothing items found at the hotel were valued at approximately $3,715.

Slater was initially charged with attempted criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree and lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center.

Police executed a search warrant at Slater’s residence on West Onondaga Street in Syracuse on Jan. 9.

Officers recovered approximately $7,900 worth of additional stolen clothing, a Taurus 9mm handgun with a loaded high-capacity magazine, a Ruger 9mm handgun with a loaded high-capacity magazine, 32 grams of MDMA packaged for sale and 2.4 grams of cocaine.

Slater faces additional charges including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second and third degrees, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree.

She is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center with no bail set.

Police determined the clothing was stolen from various retailers including Marshall’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, Nike, North Face, GAP and Polo.

The thefts occurred at locations between Syracuse and North Carolina.

The DeWitt Police Department is working to return all stolen property to the respective stores.
