Four juveniles charged after altercation at basketball game in Rome

ROME, NY — Four juveniles have been charged following an altercation during a girls’ varsity basketball game at Rome Free Academy on Dec. 19.

The incident began when a 15-year-old juvenile was asked to leave the property by Rome Police School Resource Officers and school security staff.

The juvenile had been banned from Rome City School District properties and events due to prior disciplinary issues.

When told to leave the premises, the 15-year-old became disorderly and combative.

Three other juveniles, ages 15, 17 and 17, then became involved in the altercation.

The 15-year-old juvenile and a school security officer sustained minor injuries.

One 15-year-old was charged with criminal nuisance in the second degree, menacing in the third degree, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest.

A second 15-year-old was charged with criminal trespass in the third degree, criminal nuisance in the second degree, menacing in the third degree, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest.

One 17-year-old was charged with menacing in the third degree and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.

A second 17-year-old was charged with criminal nuisance in the second degree and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.

All charges have been forwarded to the Oneida County Juvenile Probation Department.
