PLAINVILLE, CT — Two police officers suffered minor injuries Sunday when a suspect drove away from them with a car door open, striking both officers.

The Plainville Police Department was alerted at about 4:08 p.m. Sunday to a License Plate Reader hit showing a stolen Connecticut plate on a silver Honda Accord entering Plainville on New Britain Avenue.

Police confirmed the plate was registered to a brown Honda, not a silver one.

Officers located the silver Honda with the stolen plate parked in a handicap spot at CT Commons near PetSmart at 278 New Britain Ave.

While observing the vehicle, officers saw a man and woman quickly enter the silver Honda.

When officers contacted the male driver, he attempted to close the door and flee.

Officers tried to remove the driver from the vehicle, but he placed the car in reverse and drove backward at a high speed with the driver’s side door still open.

The door struck two Plainville officers, causing minor injuries to both.

The silver Honda fled eastbound onto Route 72, and officers briefly pursued it before losing sight of it on Interstate 84 East in New Britain.

The male suspect is described as light-skinned, about 6 feet tall, wearing clear eyeglasses, a ski mask and a zip-up hooded sweatshirt.

The female passenger is described as light-skinned, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing gray sweatpants and a blue pullover hooded sweatshirt.

Both suspects appeared to be in their early 20s.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Plainville Police Department at 860-747-1616.
