UTICA, NY — A 14-year-old was arrested on weapons charges after police say he fired multiple rounds near the intersection of Lenox Avenue and Whitesboro Street.
A ShotSpotter alert was activated at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2026, for multiple rounds being fired in the area.

The male initially refused to cooperate with the stop but was soon detained, police said.
During a pat frisk, officers discovered the male was concealing a handgun in his pants, and the weapon was secured.
Police then learned the male was 14 years old.
The juvenile was transported to the Utica Police Department, where members of the Juvenile Aid Unit charged him with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment in the first degree, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.
The juvenile was issued appearance tickets returnable to Probation/Family Court and released to a family member.
