Man arrested on DUI charge in Palmyra

PALMYRA, NY — Police arrested a local man on drunken driving and other charges following a traffic stop Saturday night.

Jeffrey Vanderwege, 49, of Palmyra, was stopped at approximately 8:38 p.m. Jan. 11 after police received numerous citizen complaints reporting that he was driving with a suspended license.

During the stop, officers confirmed Vanderwege’s license was revoked and observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment, according to the Palmyra Police Department.

Vanderwege admitted to leaving a local bar and consuming alcoholic beverages before driving, police said.

He refused to submit to a breath test.

Vanderwege was charged with unlicensed operator, two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, felony driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

He was processed at the Palmyra Police Department and transported to the Wayne County Jail for arraignment.
