ROME, NY — Authorities are investigating a fatal house fire that left one person dead and another injured early Sunday morning.
Oneida County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 8434 Dawn Drive at approximately 1:09 a.m. on Jan. 10, 2026, for reports of a structure fire with an individual still inside the residence, according to Sheriff Robert M. Maciol.
Upon arrival, deputies located an injured adult male suffering from burn injuries to his hands, face and other areas of his body.
The male was transported to Upstate Hospital by Amcare Ambulance for treatment.
After the fire was extinguished, an individual was located deceased inside the residence.
The name of the deceased individual is being withheld and will be released at a later time.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Rome Fire Department, the Lake Delta Fire Department, Amcare Ambulance and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
