Driver dies after crash in Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH, NH — A New Ipswich man died Thursday after his vehicle struck a telephone pole on Route 123.

Peterborough Police Department and Peterborough Fire & Rescue were notified of the crash at approximately 6:20 p.m. in the area of Upland Farm Road.

Upon arrival, Sergeant Sweeney and Patrolman Lindberg observed a vehicle resting near a tree.

The operator appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency and was unconscious and not breathing.

With the assistance of Peterborough Fire & Rescue personnel, the driver was removed from the vehicle.

Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by on-scene personnel.

The driver was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver has been identified as Matthew Zinicola, of New Ipswich.

Route 123 was closed to traffic while emergency services remained on scene and was reopened at approximately 8:50 p.m.

Peterborough Police was assisted by Peterborough Fire & Rescue, New Ipswich Police Department and Steve’s Towing.
