GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Officers were dispatched to the Lakeview Apartments leasing office to investigate a combination fire alarm and burglar alarm activation at approximately 2:26 a.m. Saturday.
Firefighters from Chews Landing Fire Department observed heavy fire conditions from the unoccupied apartment complex leasing office and requested additional fire suppression assets, initiating a second alarm.
Officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department initiated road closures on Lakeviews Drive and Pine Run to support fire suppression efforts.
A unified command post was established with police, fire, EMS and Camden County Communications.
Along with Chews Landing, the following fire departments also assisted: Blackwood Fire Company, Blenheim Fire Co., Glendora Fire Company, Erial, Magnolia Fire Company 29, Bellmawr Fire Department, Runnemede Fire Department, Lindenwold, Somerdale and Cherry Hill.
The fire was placed under control at approximately 3:42 a.m., however firefighters continued to identify and extinguish any hotspots until approximately 5:45 a.m.
There was no extension or damage to any of the residential apartment complexes.
There were no reported injuries to any civilians or firefighters.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is suspicious in nature.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Gloucester Township Police Department in collaboration with the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety, Camden County Fire Marshal’s Office, Chews Landing Fire Marshal and Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
