NORTH ELBA, NY — New York State Police have charged a 23-year-old woman with multiple crimes following a domestic dispute early Monday morning.
Gwenyth A. McCaffrey, of Lake Placid, faces charges of criminal mischief in the 3rd degree, assault in the 3rd degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree, and menacing in the 3rd degree.
Troopers responded to a residence on Cascade Road at approximately 2:37 a.m. for a reported domestic dispute involving a knife.
An investigation determined McCaffrey became upset with her two roommates and retrieved a knife, which she used to stab furniture multiple times, causing damage.
One of the roommates told McCaffrey to leave the residence, which further escalated the situation.
McCaffrey then struck that roommate in the head and face.
The second roommate intervened, assisting the victim and securing both roommates inside a bedroom.
After checking on the victim, the second roommate exited the room and observed McCaffrey retrieve another knife, again stabbing furniture and making verbal threats toward the roommates.
McCaffrey then dropped that knife, went to the kitchen, obtained a third knife, and used it to gain entry into the locked bedroom where the victim was located.
She gained access and engaged in another physical altercation.
Both roommates were eventually able to escape and secured themselves in a room until law enforcement arrived.
McCaffrey was arrested and transported to State Police barracks in Ray Brook for processing.
She was released on appearance tickets, returnable to the Town of North Elba Court at a later date this month.
