SPRINGFIELD, MA — Two Springfield residents were arrested Thursday following a months-long investigation into illegal drug distribution that resulted in the seizure of a ghost gun, high-capacity magazines and narcotics.
Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, along with members of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, executed a search warrant at approximately 5:45 p.m. on the 0-100 block of Summit Street.
David Negron, 42, of Springfield, and Joan Rivera, 39, of Springfield, were taken into custody.
Rivera was arrested outside the apartment, where police said they found six packets of heroin/fentanyl on him.
Negron was arrested inside the apartment, where police said they found eight packets of heroin/fentanyl on him.
During a search of the apartment, detectives recovered a ghost gun loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition, a firearm magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 31 rounds, an 11-round firearm magazine, a 10-round firearm magazine and approximately 200 rounds of loose ammunition.
Police also recovered approximately 22 vials of crack cocaine, 50 bags of heroin/fentanyl and a gram of cocaine.
Police seized $277 in cash.
Negron is charged with conspiracy to violate drug laws, possession of ammunition, possession of a high-capacity feeding device, possession of a large capacity magazine (two counts), possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug, improper storage of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a license.
Rivera is charged with conspiracy to violate drug laws, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm – subsequent offense, carrying a firearm without a license – subsequent offense, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine (two counts), possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug, possession of a firearm with three prior violent/drug crimes and improper storage of a firearm.
