RINDGE, NH — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Route 202 Friday evening.
Police and fire/rescue personnel responded to the crash at U.S. Route 202 and Perkins Road at approximately 5:51 p.m.
The pedestrian, a 62-year-old woman, was alert and oriented when emergency responders arrived.
She sustained a large contusion to her head near her right eye but had no other obvious injuries.
She received medical treatment at the scene and was transported to a hospital for her head injury.
The driver remained at the scene and provided aid before emergency services arrived.
Police said the vehicle was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 202 and was navigating around a vehicle turning left onto Perkins Road.
The driver slowed to approximately 30 to 35 mph and began to pass the turning vehicle.
After passing, the driver unexpectedly encountered the woman walking on the shoulder and struck her from behind with the front of his vehicle.
The vehicle sustained minor damage.
The driver did not appear to be impaired by alcohol or drugs, police said.
Police said the crash appears to have been caused by inclement weather, lack of lighting on U.S. Route 202 and dark non-reflective clothing worn by the pedestrian.
The Rindge Police Department will not be pursuing criminal charges.
