Juvenile arrested on weapons charges in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A 16-year-old was arrested on weapons charges following a traffic stop on Academy Street on Jan. 7, 2026.

Members of the New York State Police Troop K Community Stabilization Unit conducted the traffic stop on a vehicle traveling northbound at approximately 7:56 p.m. for multiple violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

During the investigation, the juvenile passenger was found to be in possession of a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun.

The juvenile was charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd, a Class C felony; criminal possession of a weapon 3rd, a Class D felony; criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony; and obstructing governmental administration 2nd, a Class A misdemeanor.

The juvenile was arraigned before the Dutchess County Youth Part and remanded to a juvenile secure facility in lieu of $20,000 cash bail, $40,000 bond or $200,000 partially secured bond.
