ORISKANY, NY — A Utica woman has been charged with assaulting a corrections officer at the Oneida County Correctional Facility.
Rahmya Reed, 25, of Utica, was charged Jan. 7 with one count of assault in the second degree, a class D felony, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.
The charge stems from a Dec. 15 incident at the correctional facility.
Reed had been brought to the facility to be held on a charge out of Rome City Court.
Two female corrections officers were attempting to get Reed to change out of her civilian clothing and into facility clothing when she began to refuse orders, according to the sheriff’s office.
Reed then charged at one of the female corrections officers, shoving her to the ground, according to the sheriff’s office.
The officer landed on her hip and struck her head against a wall in the changing room.
Other corrections staff responded and Reed was placed into a cell without further incident.
The corrections officer was taken out of work for several days due to a concussion and concussion-like symptoms.
The case was initially handled by road patrol deputies but was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Unit due to the injuries sustained.
Reed was brought from the correctional facility to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building on Jan. 7 to be charged.
She was turned back over to corrections staff to await future proceedings in CAP Court.
Reed is also due to appear in Rome City Court for the initial charge.
The corrections officer has since returned to work.
