Man arrested on weapons charges in Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY — A traffic stop on Interstate 490 led to the arrest of a man on weapons charges after a loaded handgun was found in the vehicle.

A New York State Trooper stopped a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-490 on Jan. 2, 2026, for vehicle and traffic law violations.

During an inventory of the vehicle, a loaded handgun was located inside.

One occupant attempted to flee and resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

The remaining occupants were cooperative.

Jeremy Leach, 36, with no permanent address, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony, and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.

Leach was transported to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment.
