WHITMAN, MA — A Greenfield man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into the same business twice within a week and attempting to enter another business.
Nore Anthony Cruz, 22, of Greenfield, was arrested Thursday and charged with breaking and entering a building in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony (three counts) and larceny from a building (two counts).
On Jan. 1 at about 9:40 a.m., Detective Paul Young began an investigation after Whitman Police received a report that a coffee shop at 564 Washington St. had been broken into overnight.
During the break-in, an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the business.
Through an investigation, Detective Young learned that the break-in suspect was driving a silver sedan with a black bumper.
On Jan. 6 at about 10:35 p.m., Officer Christopher Ezepik was on patrol when he observed a car matching that description.
He conducted a motor vehicle stop for an expired inspection sticker and identified the driver as Cruz.
On Jan. 7 at about 6:15 a.m., Whitman Police were notified of another overnight break-in at the same Washington Street coffee shop, in which the suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash.
Detective Sgt. Patrick Burtt-Henderson conducted a follow-up investigation through which he identified Cruz as the suspect in both break-ins.
Additionally, his investigation revealed that Cruz had attempted to break into a gas station at 79 Temple St. at about 2 a.m. on Jan. 7.
On Jan. 8 at about 12:15 a.m., Cruz turned himself in at the Whitman Police Department and was arrested without incident.
Cruz is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Brockton District Court.
