Man arrested after eluding police in Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly fleeing from police during an attempted traffic stop.

Jose Vinas, 18, of Providence, was taken into custody at 10:53 p.m. following an incident that began on Broad Street.

State troopers attempted to stop a vehicle on Broad Street but the driver allegedly fled, according to police.

Troopers later located the suspect vehicle on Washington Avenue.

Vinas was charged with reckless driving – eluding a law enforcement vehicle, first offense; reckless driving and other offenses against public safety, first offense; obstructing an officer in the execution of duty; and weapons other than firearms prohibited.

He was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and arraigned by a justice of the peace.

Vinas was released and is scheduled to appear in Sixth Division District Court at a future date.
