Driver arrested on DUI charge in Brandon

BRANDON, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a driver on suspicion of driving under the influence following a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning.

Troopers responded to a report of a crash on Pearl Street near Martin Road at 1:32 a.m. Jan. 8.

Upon arrival, police found a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado had struck a tree.

The operator was identified as Idris Atwood, 27, of Poultney.

While speaking with Atwood, troopers observed signs of impairment.

Atwood was screened and subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.

The vehicle sustained front-end damage.

Road conditions were icy with light precipitation at the time of the crash.

Atwood was transported to Rutland City Police Department for processing.

He was released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Rutland Criminal Division on Jan. 29 at 10 a.m.
