SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA — Police arrested a woman following a stabbing incident Sunday evening.
Yarmouth Police were dispatched to a residence on Wampanoag Road at approximately 6:10 p.m. regarding a male who had been stabbed with a knife.
The victim had fled to safety at a nearby residence.
Officers arrived at the Wampanoag Road residence where the stabbing occurred and used the public address system to call two females out of the house.
While officers were calling the females out, the victim, who had been stabbed in the neck, was located by police and immediately taken to a nearby ambulance for treatment.
During the investigation, two females were detained in connection with the incident.
One of them was identified as the suspect, Stefanie Melcher, 61, of South Yarmouth.
Melcher was arrested and transported to the Yarmouth Police Department where she was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
She was arraigned Monday at Barnstable District Court.
