Passenger injured in single-vehicle crash in Pownal

POWNAL, VT — Vermont State Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a tree early Tuesday morning, leaving a passenger with serious injuries.

Police were notified at approximately 5:54 a.m. of a single-vehicle crash in the area of 824 Burrington Road.

Dispatchers reported that a passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and the driver was missing from the scene.

Billie Jean Adams, 31, of Pownal, was extricated from the 1994 Toyota Camry and transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center before being transferred to Albany Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

The crash occurred during snowy conditions on snow-covered roads.

Investigators determined the Camry was traveling north on Burrington Road toward U.S. Route 7 when it veered off the roadway and struck a tree head-on.

The vehicle was totaled in the crash.

The identity and whereabouts of the driver remain unknown.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash, including businesses or residents who may have video footage of the roadway, to contact the Shaftsbury Barracks at 802-442-5421.
