ELIZABETHTOWN, NY — New York State Police arrested a woman on Nov. 25 on multiple fraud charges.
Jennifer Chappell, 29, of Witherbee, was charged with grand larceny 4th degree, welfare fraud 4th degree, offering a false instrument for filing 1st degree and falsifying business records 1st degree.
State Police received an investigative packet on April 22 from the Essex County Department of Social Services Welfare Fraud Unit regarding suspected welfare fraud.
An investigation determined that Chappell falsified multiple Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program applications by failing to report employment income, resulting in an overpayment of approximately $8,174.
She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Elizabethtown Town Court at a later date.
