Police warn of scam calls in Hanson

1 min read

HANSON, MA — Police are warning residents about scam phone calls from individuals claiming to be local law enforcement officers demanding money.

The callers claim to be officers or sheriffs and tell residents that money is needed to clear a warrant or prevent an arrest, according to the Hanson Police Department.

In some cases, the calls appear to be coming from the Hanson Police Department’s phone number.

The department said it will never call and request money be sent directly to the department—electronically, by phone or any other method—to clear a warrant or prevent an arrest.

Police are encouraging residents who receive such calls not to provide any personal or financial information.

Residents should verify any request by independently calling the business, company or agency directly using a phone number they know to be legitimate, not a number provided by the caller.

Anyone who believes they have received a scam call and released financial or personal information should contact their local police department immediately.
