False alarm triggers police response at Exeter High School

EXETER, NH — Police responded to an accidental activation of an alarm system at Exeter High School on Tuesday after receiving multiple reports of an active shooter.

The Exeter Police Department received text messages to 911 reporting an active shooter inside the building at the same time the school’s ALICE alarm system was activated, according to a statement from the department.

The reports were supported by incoming phone calls, which triggered a large-scale police response to the high school.

Officers coordinated with senior educational staff upon arrival and immediately began a systematic search of the building.

Law enforcement personnel determined within approximately four minutes that the alarm activation was accidental.

Officers continued to sweep the building out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Police praised the response of students and staff at Exeter High School, saying they followed procedures, remained calm and acted without hesitation.

The Kensington Police Department and Exeter Fire Department assisted in the response.

Numerous other law enforcement agencies offered immediate assistance during the incident, according to police.
