SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Police arrested three people Wednesday following a crash involving a stolen vehicle that fled from officers.
The South Windsor Police Department was notified of a stolen motor vehicle out of New Britain that had entered South Windsor on Route 5 from East Windsor at 4:56 p.m.
Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, a gray 2012 Hyundai Elantra, but it went through the red light at Route 5 and Sullivan Avenue and crashed into another vehicle.
The driver of the other involved vehicle was uninjured.
The driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as Rigo Santiago, 38, of Port Norris, New Jersey, fled on foot and was taken into custody a short distance away.
Santiago refused to identify himself to officers and later refused to take part in the booking process.
He was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and items consistent with those used to manufacture crack cocaine.
Santiago was charged with reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility, operating under the influence, violation of traffic control signal, use of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell, operating a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance, larceny of a motor vehicle, tampering with physical evidence, interfering with an officer/resisting and reckless endangerment in the first degree.
He was held on a $250,000 surety bond.
Marilu Valentin, 48, of New Britain, and Jessie L. Jones, 41, of Meriden, were identified as passengers in Santiago’s vehicle.
Valentin was taken into custody for use of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance and was held on a $25,000 surety bond.
Jones was taken into custody for use of drug paraphernalia and was held on a $75,000 surety bond.
All three were transferred to Manchester Superior Court on Friday at 9 a.m. for arraignment.
