FENTON, NY — A tractor trailer driver died after her vehicle went off Interstate Route 88 and overturned into a drainage ditch late Friday night.

Vicky Chadwick, 54, of Monessen, Pennsylvania, was declared deceased at the scene.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the crash near Exit 3 at approximately 11:57 p.m. Friday.

Deputies found the tractor trailer on its side in a drainage ditch on the east side of Route 88.

Road patrol deputies broke the windshield of the cab, extracted Chadwick and began CPR until emergency medical services arrived.

The sheriff’s office Accident Reconstruction Team’s preliminary investigation revealed the tractor trailer was traveling west on Route 88, passing the Exit 3 on-ramp, when it drifted from the right lane into the left lane.

The vehicle continued through the left lane, into the center median and across the eastbound lanes before going off the roadway, turning onto its side and coming to rest in the drainage ditch.

A witness observed the crash and called 911.

Traffic on eastbound Route I-88 was restricted to one lane until approximately 5:30 a.m. Saturday as crews cleaned up spilled diesel fuel and antifreeze from the semi-truck.

The Port Crane Fire Department, Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad, New York State Department of Transportation, Chenango Bridge Fire and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Spill Response assisted at the scene.
