Man charged in stabbing at Albany laundromat

ALBANY, NY — A 44-year-old man has been arrested following a stabbing at a laundromat Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the Wash Factory at 151 Henry Johnson Boulevard around 8:50 a.m. Saturday for reports of a stabbing.

Police found a 49-year-old man with a stab wound to his chest.

The victim was treated at the scene by the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel before being transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital in stable condition.

Investigators determined the victim was stabbed during a physical altercation inside the laundromat.

Melvin Grimes, of Albany, was at the scene when police arrived and was taken into custody.

Grimes has been charged with one count of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on Sunday.
