SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Police are investigating a residential burglary that occurred on Pitt Road at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 2.
Four suspects exited a dark-colored SUV and entered a residence by gaining entry through a bathroom window, according to the Springfield Police Department.
The suspects fled the scene upon interaction with the homeowner.
Police believe the suspects entered the home with the intention of stealing a key fob for the homeowner’s vehicle, which had been parked in the driveway.
No items are believed to have been taken from the home.
The incident parallels numerous other crimes of a similar nature throughout the local area, in which suspects attempt to steal parked high-end or luxury vehicles by entering residential homes in search of the corresponding vehicle key fob, police said.
Residents are encouraged to ensure their vehicles are always locked while parked and that any associated key fobs or garage door openers are secured within the home and out of sight.
Police also recommend activating alarm systems and monitoring during overnight hours and ensuring home surveillance equipment is well-positioned, active and recording.
Anyone with information about similar suspicious activity is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at 911.
