Two arrested on burglary charges in Montpelier

MONTPELIER, VT — Two people were arrested early Jan. 2 after police responded to a burglar alarm at the Tractor Supply Store on River Street.

Montpelier Police Department officers arrived at the business on U.S. Route 302 and observed signs of forced entry.

While securing the scene and conducting an initial search, officers encountered two suspects exiting the store.

Both individuals were taken into custody without incident.

The suspects were identified as Andre Ratcliff, 32, and Amy Dike, 42, both transient of Burlington.

Both were found to be in possession of a large quantity of stolen merchandise as well as burglary tools believed to have been used to gain entry to the business.

The Berlin Police Department assisted at the scene.

The Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office and a Superior Court judge were contacted following the arrests.

Ratcliff was lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

Dike was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $12,500 bail.

Both were scheduled for arraignment later that day in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, at 12:30 p.m.

Both individuals are expected to face multiple criminal charges including burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, unlawful mischief and retail theft.
