EDGEWATER, NJ — Firefighters extinguished a blaze at a high-rise apartment building on River Road early this morning.
The Edgewater Fire Department was dispatched at 6:38 a.m. to an activated alarm at 190 River Road.
First-arriving units found water pouring from the south tower after the sprinkler system activated on the sixth floor.
Crews discovered smoke coming from a unit and requested a working fire assessment.
Engine 5 personnel brought high-rise packs to the sixth floor and encountered heavy smoke conditions upon entry.
A thermal camera detected active fire, which crews extinguished using a water can and high-rise pack.
Firefighters conducted a primary search of the apartment with negative results.
Crews from Cliffside Park and Fort Lee assisted with gaining entry to water-affected apartments and isolating power.
Fire Prevention officials, Edgewater Police detectives and county arson investigators are investigating the cause.
