NEW HARTFORD, NY — A 78-year-old woman was injured after being struck by a vehicle in a supermarket parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

New Hartford Police and Fire Departments responded to 4593 Commercial Dr., the Hannaford’s Plaza, at approximately 12:30 p.m. for a car-pedestrian collision.

Upon arrival, civilians were assisting Janet Bebee of New Hartford, who had sustained injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

Police determined that Bebee was walking from the exit of the store into the parking lot area when she was struck by a vehicle, causing injuries to her back and legs.

The vehicle was being operated by Christina Paniccia, 48, of Marcy.

After interviewing witnesses and conducting further investigation, police determined that Paniccia’s vehicle was traveling westbound in the parking lot and while turning from the travel lane by the store front to access a row of parking spaces struck Bebee, who was walking in a southerly direction in the lot.

Paniccia was issued a ticket for failure to use due care near a pedestrian, a violation of NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law 1146(b).

Bebee was treated at the scene by EMTs and then transported to Wynn Hospital by Edwards Ambulance.
