Man arrested on weapons charges in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after state police discovered a loaded ghost gun during a traffic stop.

Members of the New York State Police Troop K Community Stabilization Unit stopped a vehicle traveling southbound on Academy Street at approximately 12:09 p.m. for a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The operator was identified as Donald N. Cintron of Wappinger Falls.

A probable cause search of Cintron resulted in the discovery of a loaded, privately made firearm, commonly referred to as a ghost gun.

Cintron was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class D felony, and criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony.

He was arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center in lieu of $100,000 cash bail, a $250,000 bond, or a $750,000 partially secured bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2026, at 11 a.m.
