SOUTH HADLEY, MA — A West Hatfield man was arrested on drunk driving charges after nearly colliding with a police cruiser on the Route 202 rotary.
Officer Chonmany was patrolling the Route 202 area at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 21 when he observed a Jeep Wrangler drive past the yield sign at the end of the Muller Bridge and cut off his cruiser.
The vehicle turned down a side street with two houses on it after Chonmany attempted to stop it.
Chonmany needed to use his air horn and siren to get the vehicle to stop.
The operator appeared confused to officers and smelled of alcoholic beverages.
The man did not complete field sobriety testing satisfactorily and needed to use his vehicle to help him stand up.
The driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, operating a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol, failure to yield to oncoming traffic, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
