PITTSFORD, NY — Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a convicted felon on weapon charges after discovering a ghost gun during a welfare check on Dec. 9.

Deputies were called to check on Cameron Sanderson at 2:12 p.m. and found him inside a home inhaling “duster.”

Deputies detained Sanderson for his safety to allow EMS to enter and provide medical treatment.

During the investigation, deputies observed one round of live rifle ammunition on the floor.

Sanderson is a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to possess firearms or ammunition.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home.

Upon serving the warrant, investigators found a loaded Polymer 80 semi-automatic handgun with six rounds of 9mm ammunition in an attached magazine.

The firearm was found in a hidden compartment in the bedroom.

The firearm is a ghost gun, a term used to describe a firearm that is not properly registered or trackable, making it difficult for law enforcement to investigate when used in a crime.

Ghost guns rarely have a serial number and are commonly manufactured using 3D-printing.

Investigators also located several magazines and additional rounds of ammunition in the home.

Sanderson has two felony convictions and sixteen misdemeanor convictions, some of which include offenses resulting from the possession of firearms.

Cameron S. Sanderson, 54, of Pittsford, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony.

Sanderson was transported to Monroe County CAP court for arraignment and held on bail in the amount of $10,000 cash/$20,000 bond.

On Dec. 16, Sanderson posted bail and was released on pre-trial with an electronic ankle monitor as a condition of his release.
