1 min read

SPRINGFIELD, MA — The Springfield Police Department will conduct compliance checks at businesses that sell or serve alcohol beginning in January.

The checks may start as soon as Jan. 1 and will be conducted randomly throughout the year at bars, restaurants and package stores.

Police will verify that businesses are properly checking identification and not selling or serving alcohol to anyone under 21.

The department issued the notice to remind business owners and managers to properly train their employees to ensure no one underage is sold alcohol.

Businesses found in violation will have a hearing before the city’s license commission.

Violators can have their liquor license suspended or revoked depending on their previous history.
