BOURNE, MA — Police are investigating at least five incidents since November in which suspects have forcefully kicked residential doors and fled the scene.
In at least one case, the door was forced open by the kick, according to the Bourne Police Department.
Suspects in some of the incidents were observed recording their actions with cellphones, police said.
Authorities believe the incidents are connected to a nationwide social media trend that encourages people to film themselves kicking doors and capturing homeowners’ reactions.
Police warned that participants could face criminal charges and said the pranks could have serious unintended consequences when residents believe their homes are being broken into.
