PREBLE, NY — A 36-year-old man was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after crashing his vehicle into a house late Thursday night.
Eric R. Fritts, of Preble, was taken into custody at 11:42 p.m. on Dec. 26 following a property damage crash on Preble Road.
Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 11:04 p.m. after receiving a report of a vehicle that had driven into a house.
Authorities determined that Fritts was operating the vehicle while intoxicated when he traveled off the roadway and crashed into the house.
Fritts was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, as well as leaving the scene of a property damage accident, consuming an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, speed not reasonable and prudent, crossing hazard markings and failure to keep right, all infractions.
He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
Fritts was arraigned via the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 a.m. on Dec. 27 and released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Preble Court on Jan. 13, 2026, at 6 p.m.
