NEWPORT — Jerry White retired from Columbia Forest Products after 28 years of service.
Born in Barton, Jerry graduated from Lake Region High School in 1971. Early in his career, he worked seasonal jobs including logging in winter with his father, farming in summer, carpentry work and a summer at Canadian Pacific.
Jerry joined Columbia Forest Products on July 22, 1982, as a janitor. He progressed through positions including service, booker and marking. After spending his first two years on third and second shifts, he moved to first shift and worked on the unspliced grade line before spending the remainder of his career on the marking line.
Jerry and his wife Joanne live in Derby. His retirement plans include relaxing and focusing on woodworking.
“Congratulations Jerry on your well deserved retirement,” Columbia Forest Products said in a statement. “You will be missed. I’m sure we will all see you at the Farmer’s Market this Summer.”
