Man arrested on shoplifting charge in Boston

BOSTON, MA — A Lowell man with multiple outstanding warrants was arrested on shoplifting charges Saturday morning in the South End.

Officers assigned to District D-4 arrested Darrin O’Neil, 60, of Lowell, on Dec. 27.

At approximately 11:39 a.m., officers responded to 760 Boylston Street at Dick’s House of Sport for a report of a larceny in progress.

The suspect was observed inside the store concealing merchandise.

Officers spotted O’Neil exiting the store as they arrived at the scene.

Officers stopped O’Neil and observed clothing with tags still attached inside a bag he was carrying.

During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered approximately $408 worth of stolen merchandise.

O’Neil was arrested and charged with larceny under $1,200 and common and notorious thief.

He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.

Officers determined O’Neil had seven active warrants for his arrest.

The warrant charges included four counts of larceny from a building, two counts of larceny of a credit card, three counts of receiving stolen property under $1,200, shoplifting by asportation, credit card fraud under $1,200 and shoplifting by concealing merchandise.
