Man charged in commercial burglary in Naugatuck

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Hartford man was arrested Monday in connection with a November burglary at a local business.

Carlos J. Ortiz, 36, of Hartford, was taken into custody on a felony arrest warrant with assistance from the Connecticut State Parole Office.

Naugatuck police responded to The Wash Zone on New Haven Road during the early morning hours of Nov. 13 after an alarm company reported a security alert and suspicious activity observed on surveillance footage.

Officers found evidence of forced entry and damage to the business and an adjacent vacant storefront.

Surveillance footage showed suspects forcibly entering the business before fleeing the scene.

Detectives identified Ortiz as a suspect following an investigation.

Ortiz was charged with two counts each of burglary in the third degree, conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree and criminal mischief in the third degree.

He was held on a $100,000 bond and arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court.
